Trains
Sarajevo’s train system is modest but reliable, offering mainly domestic routes. The main railway station is located about 2 km from Baščaršija, making it fairly accessible from the city center.
Domestic Train Services
For the latest schedules, fares, and booking details, check the Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ŽFBH) website.
The standout route is Sarajevo–Mostar—a gorgeous ride that winds along the Neretva River in modern, air-conditioned coaches. The track, fully restored after the 2024 floods, is running smoothly and offers a comfortable, scenic way to explore the country.
International Train Services
Sarajevo once had direct train links to cities like Zagreb and Belgrade, but as of 2025, the only international route still operating is the seasonal summer service to Ploče (Croatia).
Tickets and Schedules
Train tickets can be bought at the station or online via the official ŽFBH website. While you can book in advance online, you’ll still need to pick up your physical ticket at the station on the day of your trip.
