Phone & Internet providers

Phone Providers

There are 4 main telecom providers in BiH:BH Telecom, Mtel, Eronet, Haloo

While coverage varies across the country, in our experience, BH Telecom is the largest and most reliable provider overall.SIM cards are easy to find and purchase & available at provider branches, kiosks, supermarkets, and even at the airport. Some providers also offer eSIMs, which are great if you’d like to keep your home country SIM active at the same time. No registration is required to activate prepaid SIM cards in BiH.You can top up your credit online, through provider apps, or at kiosks and branches. Most providers offer both tourist SIMs (great for short stays) and regular prepaid SIMs (better for longer stays, as they offer more flexibility to recharge and customize your usage).Once you have residency status, you’ll also be eligible to sign up for a monthly plan.Tip for BH Telecom credit top ups: You need to purchase credit (eg at a kiosk or online) and then you need to actually elect the type of credit that you want (eg call minutes and text or internet) using the already purchased credit. This second step can be done online, in the app or via text / call to BH telecom.

Tip for BH Telecom users: After purchasing credit, you’ll need to select how you want to use it—whether for calls, texts, or data. This step can be done via the BH Telecom app, website, or by texting/calling their service number.

Internet Providers

There are 3 main internet providers in BiH: Telemach, BH Telecom, Mtel

From our experience, Telemach is the most popular choice, followed closely by BH Telecom. Most internet packages also come with a range of cable TV channels, offering a convenient all-in-one service for your home.

Note about Telemach: Our rental house came with a Telemach internet package – but surprise! It only covers the first floor. Both the TV and Wi-Fi decided that upstairs just wasn’t their thing. To get internet (and TV!) on the second floor, we had to add another package, which costs 55 BAM as of July 17, 2025. So if your upstairs feels a bit too peaceful… it might just be offline!
