“We had a good experience with Veterinarska Stanica Sarajevo – state run services – English speaking staff. They are open Mon-Sun 8 am. until 10 pm (cleaning is between 9 pm & 10 pm). After 10 pm, they offer emergency services, allowing you to call for emergency pet care or an ambulance between 10 pm & 8 am. Payment is in cash, they don’t accept cards.” An expat
“Did you know there’s a state-run pet adoption program that runs every year from around September or October through late December? It’s completely free: microchipping, pet passport, vaccinations are all covered. You just get to go home with your new furry friend! For more information, reach out to Veterinarska Stanica Sarajevo“.
“To be honest, my experience with veterinary services here has been a bit mixed, and I hesitate to fully recommend any clinic with full confidence. That said, I’ve found that 4Pet, Tim Vet, Vetanova, and the Veterinary Faculty tend to stand out as more reliable compared to others. City Vet has a solid reputation for complex procedures like amputations :(, but for general care, I prefer to go to 4Pet or Tim Vet”. A local friend

Moving Your Pets and Fur Babies to Sarajevo

Bringing your pet into Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is possible under specific conditions designed to ensure animal health and public safety. These rules apply to non-commercial movements: meaning pets are accompanying their owners for personal travel and not for sale or transfer of ownership. The requirements vary depending on the country of origin and its classification under EU regulations (Annex IV – Part A, Part B, or countries not listed).
Whether you’re traveling from an EU/EFTA member state, a third country listed in Part B, or an unlisted country, you must follow strict protocols including microchipping, rabies vaccination, proper documentation, and entry through designated points. Exceptions exist for pets marked with tattoos before July 3, 2011, and for those traveling in groups of more than five animals.
